Most people say, “It’s never too late!”, Canvas Kids say, “It’s never too early!” As the program naturally progresses, students gain technical and vocational skills necessary to explore entrepreneurship and strategies to start their own business. If a Canvas Kid dreams of a career as an artist, we help them explore educational pathways and career possibilities in the field.
We believe that there are limitless ways for Canvas kids to put their talents and skills up to the test of small business. Now is the time to capitalize on a child’s eagerness and curiosity to help build their confidence and get them running with their business concepts. Encouraging kids to pursue their business ideas and solutions has benefits far beyond finance. Critical life skills – including those that impact the emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing of children – are gained when kids are well-supported in starting their own business and in seeing their ideas come to fruition.
Here at Canvas Kids, we value the journey. Canvas Kids gain confidence and learn technical skills that can prepare them for high school, college, or creative careers. We try to make memories every single day and we want to make sure you are a part of that!
Our unique after school program offers art, fashion, dance, STEM and entrepreneurship enrichment components allow students to gain knowledge and skills by working on a series of projects over a span of 6-10 weeks. Each week, students engage in a project that builds on the skills mastered the week before. This allows students to investigate and respond to authentic, engaging, and hands on challenges.
Students in Canvas Kids enhance their skills in teamwork, accountability, critical thinking, communication, problem solving and risk taking, which builds their for 21st century competencies.
Goals
for the quarter
Canvas Kids will provide a Winter and Spring session this academic year.
Proposed projects
Winter Session |
The Sneaker Ball 6-8 weeks |
SPRING SESSION |
A Community Garden 6-8 weeks |
Canvas Kids endeavors to extend the rigorous educational engagement from the classroom to robust after school programming this year! In the Fall, students will design sneakers from scratch. They will have the opportunity to explore graphic design and produce sneaker proto-types using a 3D-printer. Once students complete their prototype, they will construct their designs using a variety of techniques like graffiti, sewing, or airbrushing. At the end of the session, Canvas Kids will host a sneaker ball and showcase their work.
In the Spring, Canvas Kids will have an opportunity to explore horticulture, gardening, landscaping, and design. Canvas Kids participants will design and create a community garden accessible by the families and students in the community. Students interested in entrepreneurship will host and participate in a Farmer’s Market at the end of the session. Some of the engagement opportunities include building bird houses, wind chimes and growing fruits, vegetables and flowers.
Canvas Kids gives students an opportunity to grow in their awareness of cultural differences, build relationships with the community, participate in student service learning, increase their attachment to school, engagement, leadership, entrepreneurial and communication skills.
About the Brand
Canvas Kids personalizes the student learning experience by integrating academic, mental health and drug prevention components into a beyond school hours enrichment program. We want to inspire learning and creativity early as possible using modern technology and unique programming.
Skills developed in Canvas Kids are taught using a combination of interactive teaching techniques and therapeutic elements including group discussion, mentoring, modeling, behavioral rehearsal, feedback and reinforcement. Each year, Canvas Kids exposes students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the use of tools like 3-D printers, air-brush compressors, drones, sewing machines, pottery wheels and glassblowers.
IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A CANVAS KID!
Students participating in Canvas Kids will engage
in anti-drug activities that support the
development of life skills for enhancing personal
and social competency. Each element of the
program prioritizes the whole self, including a
healthy balance of mental, social, emotional,
academic and physical wellbeing. Students will
create positive and supportive relationships with
other students and staff, assume responsibility
for their actions and demonstrate social
maturity and behaviors appropriate to the
situation and environment.
